NBC’s Smash is getting a different American Idol veteran. Performing artist Jennifer Hudson will join the cast of NBC’s musical show for a multiple episode arc next season.
Hudson will depict “Veronica Moore,” who’s characterized as a Tony Award-winning Broadway star who effects the lives of Karen ( ex-Idol vet Katharine McPhee) and Ivy (Megan Hilty). “This arrangement is a showcase for some of the best equipped musical talent in the business and this is a fitting depiction for Jennifer Hudson,” stated Robert Greenblatt, administrator of NBC Entertainment. “Her representation of the character will be someone who has reached their Broadway dream but also paid a price to attain it”
Hudson won an Oscar for her part in Dreamgirls and picked up a Grammy for her self-titled debut album. Steven Spielberg who is excuted producer of Dreamgirls added that, “First Dreamgirls, now Smash. I have no doubt Jennifer will continue to deliver even more inspiration to the audience responsible for giving us a second season on NBC.”
Smash, one of a the few NBC shows that has gotten a new showrunner for next season, is expected to return to the network’s schedule in early 2013.
